Created in 1998 as a division of Hero's Lacrosse, Inc., the women's club team is comprised of a terrific blend of veteran leadership and young talent. Outstanding athletes in their own right, our post-collegiate Division I, II & III players have competed at both the regional and national level. Many are high school and college lacrosse coaches and play a formative role in developing the next generation of female lacrosse stars.
Recently named the 2007 National WDPCC Team of the Year by US Lacrosse and a founding member of the highly competitive Women's Mid-Atlantic Lacrosse League (WMACLL), the team has continued to develop as a regional talent and has accomplished much in its brief history. In addition to being the 2-time reigning champion of the Women’s Mid-Atlantic Club Lacrosse League, the team has finished: 1st at the “2008 Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational”, “2008 Mardi Gras Lax”; “2006 Ocean City Lacrosse Classic”; “Charm City Lax Classic 2003, 2006, 2007 & 2008”; “E-Lacrosse Amsterdam 2004”, “Laxtoberfest 2002 & 2001”, and “Lax Vegas 2000” tournaments; 2nd at the “2005 E-Lacrosse London Tournament”, “2006 Florida Lacrosse Classic”, “Charm City 2004”, ‘Victoria Slam 2003”, “Mardi Gras 2003“, Hawaii 2001”, and Lax Vegas 2001” tournaments; and 3rd at the “Ocean City Classic 2002 & 2008”, ”Lake Placid 2002”, and “Prague Cup 2001” tournaments.
Each winter, Hero's hosts a series of tryouts for players interested in becoming a part of the women's post-collegiate club team. Because of our corporate status, we are required to hold a competitive selection process each year that is open to all players so don't let the idea of tryouts discourage you. We encourage everyone who is interested to check us out! You never know where it will take you!!!! For information on trial dates and locations, see the details on our website or contact us at womenslax@heroslacrosse.com.
Each player is selected with a unique role in mind but the foundation of our success has been built on the collective effort of all players and the strong sense of team that exists. Each is dependent upon the performance of the other to maximize our potential and therefore players accepting a position with Hero's Lacrosse are expected to commit to playing in all league games. There are a number of non-league games scheduled to maximize playing opportunities but these games are scheduled based on the availability of players and are not considered mandatory.
The women's team generates most of its own funding and there are two annual fundraisers that require the participation of all players; the bull roast and "Laxtoberfest" (check out our links on the main home page to these events!). Additional fundraiser opportunities are provided throughout the year to help players raise funds but participation in these other events is voluntary.
Join Hero's ~ see the world! You never know where you will end up next! The team participates in an average of two (2) domestic and one (1) international tournament each year. These events are exclusively organized for Hero's players and when space is available, past players and new recruits are invited to participate. While participation in these events is encouraged and FUN, they are not considered mandatory.
